The kids and I left town for our 15 day road trip with Mama J and Papa J. Papa J has a conference in Fargo, North Dakota, and we are joining him on the adventure. We are currently on the trip, and I'm trying to update as we go so that Thomas can see pictures of the adventures!
On Day 1, we traveled to Kansas City and spent the night. On day 2, we got up and visited Deanna Rose's Children's Farm. This was a really cool farm! I wish it was closer to Dallas, because we would go often.
Right when we walked in, a wooden train/planter was there to greet us. The kids liked climbing on it!
They had an old school that the kids got to attend classes to learn about animals that are on a farm.
Notice Jackson raising his hand to answer a question!
There was an apple orchard that featured various types of apples.
Looking at all of the apples.
Lauren checking out an apple.
Next, the kids got to mine for gold.
Lauren found all of her treasures. She kept splashing the water when she would put her sifter back in the stream!
Jackson with his treasures. They got all sorts of cool rocks from mining!
Lauren playing in the water produced from the windmill.
Papa J explained the tools used in mining.
Lauren played with the cowbells.
The kids watched a movie on how milk is produced.
Jackson looked at corn drying out for feeding animals.
Lauren peeked in at the cow that is used for milking.
Looking at treasures one more time!
After learning about milk, it was time for a milk break! Chocolate milk of course!
Petting all of the animals.
There was also a section that had housing that Native Americans once lived in.
Papa J and the kids looked at the tools that the Native Americans used.
Papa J showed the kids some bones from animals.
Lauren checked out the Teepee.
Then it was time to feed the goats, and what an experience it was! The kids could go in the fence to feed the goats, but the people before us did not follow the two gate rule of only opening one gate at a time so that the goats to not escape. The escaping goats intimidated Lauren, so we decided to let her feed the goats from outside the fence!
Let's just say that the goats were HUNGRY! Lauren ended up dropping the bottle because of their aggressiveness.
Jackson decided to venture in the fence. The goats quickly surrounded him. He did a good job of giving milk from one to the other.
The goats even started tugging his shirt!! And biting it!!
Jackson kept saying, "Hey! Hey! Wait!" Unfortunately, I didn't get the best pictures. The goats were climbing on Jackson, and surrounded him.
It was frantic!
After his bottle was empty, Jackson struggled with getting out with the goats climbing over him! After it was all over, he said, "I'm never doing that again!" It was quite an experience! Mama J and I had fun watching the whole thing! We offered to buy another bottle for him, and he said, "no way!"
The kids enjoyed riding the tractors.
Then it was time to ride horses!
This was Lauren's favorite part!
Then off to fishing! Luckily for me, Mama J and Papa J were there because the bait was real worms! Mommy could not have done the fishing part of baiting the hooks! I was SO glad to have Mama J and Papa J there!
There were a lot of fish in the pond, but they were smart fish! They kept taking the worm right off the hook as soon as the hook went in to the water!
So, no fish were caught.
The farm featured an old store and an old bank. The bank teller told us all about the special safe that was in the bank. She told us about bank robbers and why this safe could not be exploded. Pretty cool!
The kids loved playing on all of the playgrounds throughout the farm.
Then it was time for the hay ride.
Mama J and Papa J's first date was on a hay ride. Awwwww!
The kids toured the many gardens.
We also enjoyed the many swings throughout the farm.
What a great day on the farm! I only wish we could go more often! After the farm, we hopped in the car to head to Brookings, South Dakota to spend the night. Day 3 to be spent in De Smet, South Dakota touring the Laura Ingalls Wilder homestead!
